Offering authentic American fare for over 80 years, Steak ‘n Shake brings burgers and other traditional diner food to a whole new level. Gus Belt founded the restaurant with the idea of being famous for premium “steakburgers” (because hamburgers are not made out of ham!) and hand-dipped milkshakes for the sweet tooth. And since the restaurants are open 24 hours a day, loyal customers can enjoy their selection day and night.
Due to the traditional 1950s diner décor, customers walking into Steak ’n Shake feel like they have stepped back in time. From the counter and bar stools to the white papers hats, the restaurant brings nostalgia to family dining with a modern twist. Shake flavors have gone from the classic chocolate and strawberry to newer versions featuring candy, cookies, and various syrups mixed in.
Although the prices have certainly changed since 1934 when the restaurant chain began, the company still does a pretty good job at keeping prices low. In fact, their $4 meal menu offers a variety of sandwiches and fries. Of course, you still need to order a beverage or shake on the side, and depending on your preferred flavor, it can cost almost as much as your meal! This is where coupons and promotions come in quite handy.
Kids Eat Free
On Saturdays and Sundays in participating restaurants, Steak ’n Shake lets kids eat free with a paying adult. This may not be advertised so ask ahead of time to make sure your local restaurant is participating, but it is quite common in the various regions where Steak ‘n Shakes exist. For each adult purchase of $8 or more (a $4 meal and a $4 shake, perhaps?), your child under the age of 12 will receive a free meal from the children’s menu. Kid’s burgers, beef hot dogs, chicken strips, corn dogs, and other meals are all part of the offer.
Whether you need a shake fix in the afternoon or in the middle of the night, Steak ’n Shake has you covered. In order to drive business during the slow hours between 2 to 4 am or 2 to 4 pm, Monday through Friday, customers can get shakes for half price either at the drive through or when dining in. Don’t forget that this doesn’t apply on weekends though. Unfortunately, this means that you cannot combine happy hour with the Kids Eat Free promo.
The Steak ‘n Shake eClub functions as a fairly typical loyalty club program where customers sign up online to take advantage of special discounts. The company provides customers special offers and coupons, as well as extra treats for birthdays and other special occasions. Customers may also sign up for a text version to be sent, not more often than weekly, to their phones. Those in the military receive special thanks and discount opportunities.
Local Newspaper Coupons
Steak ’n Shake is a national chain that still does a lot of advertising in local newspapers or coupon fliers. Often, there is a page packed full of coupons, typically once a month, for such deals as Buy One Get One Free milkshakes or $1.00 off a certain burger.
With over 500 locations (about 100 franchised and the others owned by the company), it is quite likely that you can find one near you if you live in one of their regions. Steak ’n Shake stores are located in 29 of the United States, primarily in the Midwest, South, Southwest, and some in the Northeast, as well as a few stores in Europe and the Middle East. Stop by a Steak ‘n Shake restaurant today for an open grill view as the cooks in white paper hats prepare your steakburger and hand-dip your shake!
